Qimpro 25: Milestone Experiences

Qimpro will be 25 on 20 November, 2012. These years have seen Qimpro mature from a reseller of ‘Juran on Quality Improvement’ video series, to a developer of IPs in Quality, Excellence and Best Practices. Our signature claim is that over the 25 years, Qimpro has enabled its clients to save more than Rs 17,500 crores as a by-product of Quality Improvement.

This is a time to thank the executives of all our 300+ clients who have helped Qimpro evolve into a solid brand equated with ‘Positive Quality’. It is also a time to recognize the sterling contributions made by various avatars of Team Qimpro. And the catalysts, RV Ramachandran & Ramesh Daga. These two leaders from the auto sector recognized the importance of Quality, pre-liberalization, and therefore prodded me into the Juran school of thought. Lesser known is the solid support Qimpro received from the Indo American Society in its first five years, and the support from Indian Merchants’ Chamber over the subsequent two decades. A BIG THANK YOU.

Our current team at Qimpro has an outpouring of cost-efficient ideas for a 25 years celebration. As a consequent first step, I propose to post select milestone experiences in my blog over the next few months. These are assignments or events that educated me personally and / or helped Qimpro, at times, to tread the path of a different drummer. In order that I not overlook some magic milestones, I appeal to all the well wishers in the Qimpro Group to please remind me of assignments and events that you consider significant. This appeal is particularly directed at past employees, but not exclusively.

My first assignment came from Dr J M Juran. He requested me to define a mission statement for Qimpro that could integrate into the Juran eco-system. After several weeks of reflection and iterations, I froze the following mission statement, on 20 November 1987

Our mission is to facilitate transformation of our client organizations and their human resources into robust world-class quality assets.

To enable this we:

Research and collaborate for developing knowledgeware

Act as catalysts for exchange and recognition of best practices.

Suresh Lulla

Managing Director

In an effort to build a refreshingly different ‘Qimpro Next’, Team Qimpro revisited the mission statement last month. We believe we have lived the mission. We also believe this same mission is good for the next phase of Qimpro.

I am part of ASQ’s Influential Voices and this post is in response to ASQ’s Blog: A View from the Q.

  • Its really an big achievement, where everyone talk about Quality and no body takes the responsiblity. Everything starts in Manufacturing and service sector extracts its benefits. This is possible because of the evidence of the tool & recognition. Qimpro stands for recognition for the Quality Improvements, the use of tools may differ but the result of these is same thats Improvement !
Qimpro should propogate in the Infrastruture industry – which is purely unorganized and Qimpro can play an vital role and develop road map. The benefits are not only for the organisation but also it will have impact on National Development.
Best Wishes for 25 years of commendable service to ensure Quality through Improvement.
