Qimpro 25: Column in Business India
Sometime in 1990, the editor of Business India invited me to write a regular column on quality and showcase its importance in the context of the Indian industry which was yet alien to the term, let alone the practice. There was a clear need to upgrade the standards of the industry on par with global norms and there was immense potential.
What was lacking was a platform to voice opinions. The levels of awareness back then were abysmally low and quality was an isolated practice, far removed from operations. There was a sense of disconnect, which needed to be addressed urgently in order to help evolve Indian businesses and make them competent on the world platform. Quality was the answer.
Today, the subject has gained maturity and inclusiveness. On the other hand, I have enjoyed presenting facts and opinions on the topic. I must thank Ashok Advani who provided me this unique opportunity which is in line with his vision “to create a climate in which business and entrepreneurship would flourish and would facilitate the Indian economy to rapidly join the ranks of the more advanced world economies.”
