Why only November for Quality?

We are once again in November. A month dedicated to Quality by the world. Why only a month? Should we not have a decade of Quality?

If November is dedicated to Quality, are we also dedicating November to ‘understanding customer needs’? Or for that matter, ‘understanding employee needs?

Why November? Why the end of the year? Why not January?

November is in autumn. I prefer spring.

In spite of all my questions, we at Qimpro organize two major events each November. This year, Qimpro Convention is on 11-12 November in Mumbai. It is our twenty-fifth. As always, we will celebrate and recognize team excellence in Quality & Innovation. The focus is primarily middle-level managers from manufacturing, service and healthcare. This is an occasion when several former Qimpro employees rally round to support us. In fact they look forward to this surrogate reunion!

In November, we will also celebrate and recognize individual excellence at the Qimpro Awards Ceremony on 22 November in Mumbai. We have the Qimpro Platinum Standard for a Statesman advocating Quality at a national level; and Qimpro Gold Standard for a Leader who has transformed his/her organization using Quality as a strategy. The focus is top-management. We offer both awards in three categories: Business, Healthcare, and Education. The recipients of the awards and esteemed guest bring dignity to the event. Our guest are a mix of businessmen, physicians, surgeons, professors and social workers.

This year we have also launched a Qimpro Challenge for B-School students. The challenge is to recognize 5S practices in a ‘paanwalla’ booth or in a ‘bhelpuri’ stall. Teams of students have responded from across India, presenting their findings and recommendations through a five minutes video. The three best entries will be showcased and felicitated at Qimpro Convention.

Why November? Because Qimpro was established on 20 November, 1987.
