Qimpro 25: Juran’s advise led to the birth of Qimpro Convention.

Struggling to attract clients for Quality Improvement in India, Dr J M Juran advised that Qimpro host a convention to showcase the efforts of pioneering clients. This led to a hastily assembled Qimpro Convention 1989, in Poona.

The speakers were our Juran on Quality Improvement clients. Most were from the manufacturing sector. The showcased project that is still remembered as path breaking was Improvement in the yield of BBP ingots in the LD shop presented by A D Baijal, Senior Divisional Manager (Planning), Tata Steel, Jamshedpur. The key tangible benefit from this quality improvement project was that Baijal and his team  significantly reduced leakages, and thereby improved the bottom line by Rs 16,20,000 per month.

Another feature of this convention was the address sent by Dr Juran. His message is still very relevant.
